Preparations before exhibition
Another phase of preparations for „To Board!” exhibition has just begun – in the Slavic Hall of „Panna” (Maiden) Granary the repair works have been in progress. Since the exhibition will take nearly the entire space of the hall (as. 500m²), yesterday, the CMM employees took from there the historical dugout canoe.
The one-trunk oak dugout canoe was discovered in 1924 at the shore of the Vistula river in Nowa Cerkiew; the preserved length of the canoe totals 10.3m and the height of the sides amounts to 0.8m. The original dugout canoe was several meters longer. The bow and left side of the canoe survived but the right side is destroyed. This very valuable historical exhibit dates back to the 10th c. and has been part of the CMM collection since 1984. The canoe will be shown in the Dolomite Hall.
